US cult bike maker Harley Davidson launched two locally-assembled models - FXDB Street Bob and FXDC Super Glide Custom - at a price starting from Rs 9.95 lakh, which is much lower than that of imported motorcycles.
FXDB Street Bob and FXDC Super Glide Custom, previously offered as Completely Built-up (CBU) imports, will now be available at all the seven dealership of Harley-Davidson. FXDB Street Bob will be available for Rs 9.95 lakh while FXDC Super Glide Custom will cost Rs 11.5 lakh.
Royal Enfield launched a 500cc Thunderbird, which is stated to be the ultimate cruiser for India. The bike looks like a sharpened cleaned up version of the old Thunderbird. The new bike will be on the market by mid 2012.
Triumph has showcased a diverse portfolio of seven bikes from four prominent families (Roadster/ Supersports, Adventure / Touring, Modern Classics and Cruisers).
The bikes launched by Triumph include the Bonneville, Speed Triple, Street Triple, Tiger 800xc, Storm, Rocket III and Daytona 675. The Bonneville will be the cheapest offering at Rs 5.5 lakh ex-showroom. The commercial sales in India start during the festive season i.e. the third quarter of 2012.
Honda Motorcycles unveiled 7 new models including the Dream Yuga and The CBR150R. The CBR150R has light and compact DOHC engine which produces a peak power of 18PS at 10,500rpm and peak torque of 12.6Nm at 7500rpm. The CBR150R will be available in two variants – Standard and Deluxe. he CBR 150R is expected to be priced below Rs 1.2 lakh.
Honda also launched a new tri-colour CBR 250R which will be available for sale from February 2012
The key focus for Honda was however the unveiling of their first mass motorcycle in India, the Dream Yuga, which will launch in May 2012. The Dream Yuga is powered by an 110cc engine making 9PS. Honda claims that it will return 72kmpl. Honda also showcased their two superbikes, the VT 1300CX and 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) unveiled two new products at the 2012 Auto Expo. The first one is an 110cc mass market commuter called Hayate and the second is a 125cc scooter called Swish.
The Swish, which will be selling alongside the Acess, will be priced at Rs 45,431, ex-showroom Delhi and will be available with the dealers by March this year. Suzuki haven't revealed the pricing of the Hayate but said that it will be priced competitively.
